This morning my impish iPod gave me a nudge in the form of Elvis Costello's "Veronica".
"Do you suppose that waiting, hands on eyes,
Veronica has gone to hide
And all the time she laughs at those
I never imagined, back when this single came out, that this would ever become my reality.

You peaked my interest so I looked up the rest of the lyrics. How very fitting for what you're going through/what I've been through!
The site I read said "This was written about Elvis' grandmother, Veronica, who had dementia."
Yes, it's a great song and a glimpse back to a more politically-engaged 80s pop-star (he's still working in a classical context, I understand). His oblique song about the Falklands war "Shipbuilding" is one of my all-time favourites.
Are there any other songs out there about Dementia, I wonder?
It's funny, I was worrying that I had left posting for a month and then this popped into my consciousness like a gift. I've never forgotten the song but had never thought to post about it in the last year and a half of keeping this blog.
I've just checked on youtube and there only appears to be a live version of 'Shipbuilding' that misses out on Chet Baker's HAUNTING trumpet playing. So here's an audio link to the song:

You made me smile on a day that I thought I am too busy to do so. :D
